  • Most of us Indians love manual cars, but some others prefer automatic cars as well.
    Those who prefer manual over automatic, prefer these because of the fun and adrenaline rush these car provides whereas in India for a long time, automatic gearboxes were considered to be sluggish and boring
    However, things have vastly changed now, automatics like torque converters and dct are serving enthusiasts in the petrolheads community
    But with DCT transmission there is one big catch and that is related to its reliability issues
    and in this video, we will discover exactly what is wrong with this gearbox and why there are so many recalls going on all around the world of the cars installed with this gearbox

    I have a 7 speed DSG Octavia and a 6 speed DSG Skoda Laura. The transmission has been changed 3 times in the combined usage of 1 lakh km between the 2 cars. Each time the cost of replacement is greater than 1.5 Lakh rupees. Your analysis of this problem is perfect. The cost of spare parts in VW & Skoda is ridiculously high. I think they are not serious about staying in India just like GM & Ford.

      @@vasant.talpada Reliability of German cars in Indian conditions is a joke. The ceiling upholstery of ALL premium German cars fail in 5 years . I have 3 such experiences. The company quotes 45K for each repair. The lens on the headlight becomes opaque in 5 years and each headlight costs 25K to replace. I have replaced 4 already. Like I said, the VW / Skoda group have a flawed spare parts pricing policy over and above their quality issues.
      Maruti, Hyundai, and Toyota are more reliable products and exceedingly cheaper to maintain. VW / Skoda has sold till now on their perceived safety attributes. Soon customers will start getting heart attacks due to VW / Skoda repair bills.

    Great video ! torque converters are also used in CVT gear boxes.The torque converter is configured with an ATF and along with working like a clutch, is an important vehicle part for increasing torque and transferring powerful kinetic force when moving off. I think you are refereing to traditional automatic transmissions which are the expensive ones but are best in my experience. The main parts of an automatic transmission are the torque converter, planetary gearset, hydraulic controls, and the transmission fluid.

      @@dibyanjannayak_9666 yes, from my personal experience, I don’t put the gearbox in Drive mode in bumper to bumper to bumper traffic. I put it in manual and 1st gear. That will make sure that the car doesn’t keep upshifting and downshifting between 1 and 2 constantly that saves a lot of clutch wear. When parking, don’t just hold the car in Park, also use the handbrake that way there is less stress on the clutch plates. You don’t have to put the car in park ever time you stop in traffic, just holding the brake and leaving it in drive is ok, too. It’s little things like that, which will prolong the life of the gearbox and also regular servicing will help. You need to think more to maintain a DSG compared to torque converter or manual but with little precautions, it’s the best gearbox you’ll ever experience, there is a reason why Porsches, Ferraris, Bugattis use DSG. My thoughts: We feel the rubberband effect in CVTs because our tax system doesn't allow a little better engine for these cars. Have been driving one of Honda's CVTs for more than 3 years and would place it at the top wrt its reliability and ease of drivability.

    I have seen people keeping in ‘D’ at signals, and then pressing on the breaks to keep it stopped. It will obviously create issues.

    A lot depends on how you drive an automatic, it is essential that you move to neutral as soon as you stop but many people keep operating it in drive mode. DSGs get overheated due to these driving habits as well as driving aggressively in high traffic areas. Be gentle with accelerator and most issues with automatics are resolved. I have driven many automatics in West and India, this is my experience.

    • @abe4985
      @abe4985 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@gtmsddrtheva DSG is not meant for bumper-to-bumper traffic. It is best to avoid driving DSG in traffic of cities where CVT and Torque Convertor work best. But if you do, switch to N whenever the car is still. Even with my torque convertor AT, i switch to N on traffic lights or whenever the car is still for more than a few seconds. It protects the internal clutch of AT transmission. Aggressive driving and too much braking will over-engage the transmission so best to drive with a light foot. Also if you drive for long hours, try to take a break after every few hours. These things should be more than enough

    I loved the Torque converter and the 1.6L engine in the 2010 Vento, it was so smooth. But the fuel economy was abyssmal. My dad's car gave between 8 and 10 kmpl. He still kept driving it for 13 years because it was so good to drive. We sold it last month, along with our beater car, a Kwid, to buy a new Renault Kiger. The AMT is clearly a downgrade. But I'm thinking of getting a used Polo with the same 1.6L engine and manual transmission. Only it is so hard to find one as they are rare and enthusiasts are snatching them up as soon as they appear in the used car market.
